STM Environmental’s Flood and Drainage team recently completed an extensive study on behalf of Blackhampton Business/Realty Estates for the proposed reconstruction of La Reserve Hotel, Fulham. As part of the planning application to Hammersmith and Fulham Borough Council (HFBC), the client required a Flood Risk Assessment and Surface Water Drainage Strategy.
By working with STM it has been possible to hone the Council’s initial assessment of flood risk by taking into account not only the likelihood of flooding, but also the cultural, economic, human health, and environmental consequences should it occur. In doing so it has been possible to identify localised hot spot areas of flood risk.
“STM were very professional and efficient. They kept us in touch with what was happening all the time and made the process easy to understand. We are very pleased and satisfied with the outcome.”
Essex County Council’s Flood and Water Management Team implemented the STM Flood Risk Data Management System in July 2015. Having STM in place has reduced our research time when dealing with enquiries and applications, therefore increasing our turnaround, providing a better customer experience, as well as increasing our savings through better use of team resources and more joined up working.
Information management is a critical part of the work that contaminated land officers face in their daily job and having the right tools to make the information accessible is as important as maintaining the information itself. Whether it is responding to planning consultations, environmental enquiries or undertaking Part 2A work, it is essential that all of the information required can be assessed with ease, is maintained and clearly understandable by other users.
STM were recently requested by an IPPC Company owner (Client) to undertake a Environmental Due Diligence Assessment (EDD) for their operational industrial property. The company, a very successful operational metal works and was due to be sold to foreign investors.
STM Environmental has recently completed 3 preliminary risk assessments on behalf of Hart District Council in Hampshire. They are, however, only the latest stage of a systematic assessment of potentially contaminated land sites in Hart which covers nearly the whole Part 2A process. STM have now worked on 3 distinct projects with Neil Hince, Principal Environmental Health Officer with Hart DC as he strives to undertake Hart’s Part 2A duties with limited resources.

When STM Environmental reviewed Historical Maps for the newly formed Northumberland Council Unitary Authority last year, one of the unusual map features we encountered were strange lead smelter flues, sometimes stretching for hundreds of metres in different directions from a lead smelter and many are still visible on current aerial photography.
STM was recently approached by Hounslow Council to geo-rectify some aerial maps of the council district. Hounslow provided a wealth of old aerial photo scans, taken from planes throughout the last few decades, with the task of mosaicking the images so that they aligned with Ordnance Survey MasterMap data.
STM Environmental was recently approached by a local council to map out areas of potentially contaminated land within the local region. This project spanning a number of epochs ranging over 200 years involved sifting through old maps with a fine tooth comb in order to pick out sites of potential contamination, ranging from old industrial factories to more modern hospitals.
